Playa del Carmen Seizes 600+ Drug Doses in Security Crackdown

Playa del Carmen, Mexico — The security strategy implemented by the municipal government of Playa del Carmen has yielded measurable results. In just one week, officers from the Municipal Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSCM) conducted eight successful operations, leading to the arrest of 10 individuals linked to drug-related crimes, the seizure of 676 doses of suspected narcotics, as well as three firearms and 31 rounds of ammunition.

Historic Investment in Security

Mayor Estefanía Mercado emphasized the significance of these outcomes, stating, “These results reflect the daily commitment of our police force and the tangible impact of the historic 1.2 billion peso investment allocated to strengthen security in Playa del Carmen. We are not here to improvise—we are here to deliver real change.”

The mayor reiterated her administration’s unwavering efforts to ensure safety across all neighborhoods through increased police presence, crime prevention initiatives, community engagement, and technological advancements. She affirmed that in Playa del Carmen, security is not a privilege but a fundamental right, and her government is acting decisively to uphold it.

Targeted Operations Across Key Areas

The operations were carried out in several neighborhoods, including Ejido, In House, Luis Donaldo Colosio, and Nueva Creación. Authorities also dismantled unauthorized surveillance cameras, reinforcing institutional oversight of public spaces.

With these actions, the municipal government reaffirms its commitment to building a safer, more just, and humane city for all residents.
