Shocking Rescue: Women Freed from Trafficking in Playa del Carmen

Police officers seen at night apprehending a group of individuals next to a police vehicle labeled 'INVESTIGACION'

On Saturday, May 18, the Attorney General's Office of Quintana Roo (FGE) reported the rescue of 17 women who were victims of human trafficking and exploitation in Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo. The women were found in a traditional Mexican bar situated on the Cancun-Tulum federal highway. Among them, 15 were of Argentinean descent and the remaining two were Mexican.

Following the operation, three Mexican men were arrested. They were identified as Luis Alfredo, Emmanuel, and Angel Alberto. The state prosecutor's office revealed that these men exploited the women's vulnerability and financial hardship. They lured the victims with false job offers, promising employment in luxury hotels in Playa del Carmen. Instead, the women were held against their will and forced to work long hours in local bars and restaurants.

The successful rescue operation was carried out by the FGE and the National Guard. This followed a comprehensive investigation, which was supported by the Special Prosecutor's Office against the Crime of Trafficking in Persons in Quintana Roo.
