The fourth annual "Fallen Men of the Sea" fishing tournament is scheduled for October 27th in Cozumel. This event is designed to honor the memory of deceased sailors.
A notable change in this year's tournament is the prohibition of billfish species, such as marlin or sailfish. This decision is part of a broader initiative to encourage responsible fishing practices. Instead, the tournament will focus on species like wahoo, dolphinfish, and sierra. These species will be judged based on their weight and size, fostering a competitive environment that also supports sustainability.
In keeping with local traditions, the tournament will also offer fried fish for attendees to share. This gesture of hospitality is a longstanding practice of the cooperative, intended as a show of gratitude towards the local fishing community.
