2024 Hurricane Season: Predicted to Break Records

Meteorologists from the University of Colorado have issued a warning: the 2024 hurricane season in the Caribbean could be one of the most active in recent memory. This prediction is primarily due to the high temperatures recorded in the Atlantic Ocean, which is effectively turning into a breeding ground for tropical storms.

The World Meteorological Office has already released the list of names for this year's Atlantic hurricanes: Alberto, Beryl, Chris, Debby, Ernesto, Francine, Gordon, Helene, Isaac, Joyce, Kirk, Leslie, Milton, Nadine, Oscar, Patty, Rafael, Sara, Tony, Valerie, and William.

Initial projections from the researchers suggest the potential for 23 named cyclones, with 11 possibly escalating to hurricane status and 3 potentially reaching category 3 or higher.

It's important to highlight that last year saw exceptionally high atmospheric temperatures, a trend that has continued into the early months of 2024. This, in combination with the warm Atlantic waters, presents a high-risk situation for the Mexican Caribbean region.
