In a celebration of love and commitment, 280 couples were wed in Playa del Carmen's Collective Weddings 2025 event. The event, which took place on the Day of Love and Friendship, saw one same-sex couple and another visually impaired couple among the newlyweds.

Municipal President Estefanía Mercado, who officiated the ceremony, spoke about the challenges and joys of marriage. "Marriage is a commitment that is built with patience, empathy, and love. There will be moments of infinite happiness, but there will also be many challenges," she said.

Mercado urged the couples to reaffirm their love in the face of any adversity, highlighting the transformative power of love. "Love knows no limits or distinctions. It is built day by day, with respect, commitment, and the desire to share joys and overcome life's challenges together," she added.

The event also served as a reminder that love is the best tool for social transformation. "When there is love, there is prosperity, respect, and peace," Mercado noted.

Verónica Lezama Espinosa, the honorary president of the State System for Integral Family Development (DIF) of Quintana Roo, also celebrated the unions. She wished the couples happiness and encouraged them to build a future based on love, respect, and commitment.

On behalf of Governor Mara Lezama, Espinosa reaffirmed the government's commitment to support the most vulnerable. "You are not alone. You have a government that works tirelessly for the well-being of Quintana Roo families," she said.

Eduardo Asencio, head of the municipal DIF, praised the efforts of Mercado and Espinosa in building strong and happy families. The civil ceremony took place at the Municipal DIF amphitheater, with 30 more couples set to marry later at the mayor's office in Puerto Aventuras, bringing the total to 310 couples in the municipality of Solidaridad.
