Governor Mara Lezama has announced the deployment of 600 marines, four naval vessels, and four jet skis to enhance security operations in the hotel zone and Punta Sam. This move is aimed at bolstering maritime security, a concern that was highlighted during the federal citizen security secretary, Omar García Harfuch's visit to Quintana Roo. The deployment is a response to a series of beachfront crimes, including attacks launched from the sea using jet skis.

Lezama confirmed that the instructions for the deployment were given immediately. "Four navy vessels are coming to pair with the four jet skis. The jet skis have already arrived and the vessels are due today," she said.

The governor explained that the enhanced surveillance will cover a 25-kilometer stretch of the coast, as well as the continental areas of Isla Mujeres and Puerto Juarez. "We have many issues to address, one of them being maritime surveillance. We discussed the importance of addressing the incidents that have occurred at sea," she added.

During the meeting, a four-pronged strategy was discussed. This included addressing the root causes of crime, consolidating federal forces, strengthening investigation procedures, and coordinating the security cabinet. Lezama expressed satisfaction with the meeting's outcome, stating, "The fact that the Secretary came shows his commitment to Quintana Roo. We asked him to prioritize Cancun in his first 100-day plan, and it has yielded results."

In addition, Lezama confirmed that over 200 individuals have been dismissed from the Prosecutor's Office as part of an ongoing effort to ensure only the best profiles remain. "A purge of more than 250 elements has been carried out in the Prosecutor's Office, almost 290 in total. The work will continue, and the results will benefit the citizens," she concluded.
