The National Military Service Lottery was recently held in Cancun, with the backing of the Government Directorate and the Municipal Recruitment Board of the Benito Juarez Municipality. The lottery was overseen by Municipal President, Ana Paty Peralta. The event involved 1,762 young conscripts from the class of 2006, who were required to participate.

The lottery took place at the sports unit of Supermanzana 60, beginning promptly at 08:11 on Sunday, November 17. The process involved drawing from a tombola containing 650 white balls and 1,112 black balls. The color of the ball drawn determined whether a conscript would be required to complete a year of military service.

Government Director, Rodrigo Ramos Eusebio, explained that the selection process was based on the responsibilities outlined in the Military Service Law. He reminded the audience that the law was introduced in 1939, during a period of stability in Europe, when citizens were recruited to join the army and air force reserves. This led to the drafting of 18-year-olds into the armed forces as a preventative measure against potential attacks.

Eusebio encouraged the young conscripts to love their country passionately, reminding them that they are the future and hope of Mexico. He also highlighted the transparency of the selection process, which was ensured by the involvement of two young girls. With their parents' permission and supervision, these girls were responsible for drawing each ball that corresponded to the names of the conscripts.

As their names were called, the conscripts received a stamp on their National Military Service identity card indicating the color of the ball drawn. Those selected for service can report to the 64th Infantry Battalion, located in Supermanzana 99, on Saturdays and Sundays in January to begin their service.
