The Eco-Bahia Foundation recently celebrated the end of the 2024 marine turtle nesting season. A ceremony was held at Aventuras DIF beach in Tulum, where over 93,000 turtle hatchlings were released. This significant achievement was the result of a collaborative effort involving technicians, students, and executives from the Bahía Principe Riviera Maya Resort and Tulum Country Club.
The event provided an opportunity to discuss the program's challenges and successes. Among the accomplishments were the tagging of 116 adult female turtles and the safeguarding of 1,196 nests. These nests included 460 from loggerhead turtles (Caretta caretta) and 736 from green turtles (Chelonia mydas). A total of 38,019 loggerhead hatchlings and 55,140 green turtle hatchlings were released.
Luis Verdín, the manager of Eco-Bahia, expressed his gratitude to all those involved. He emphasized that the successful outcome is a testament to the power of teamwork in the conservation of marine turtles.
