Cancún's City Hall was bathed in orange light to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, observed annually on November 25th. This act was aimed at raising awareness and educating people about the prevention and reporting of violence against women.

A play titled “El Sendebar: the crusade of an enlightened woman” was staged during the event. Performed by the Municipal Theater Company of the Institute of Culture and the Arts, the play highlighted the historical struggle of women for their voices to be heard.

The event was organized by the Municipal Institute for Women (IMM), under the leadership of Mayor Ana Patricia Peralta de la Peña. She reiterated her commitment to a zero-tolerance policy towards violence against women, girls, and gender-based violence. She also encouraged women to show empathy and provide support to friends, neighbors, or colleagues who may need it.

Mayor Peralta de la Peña highlighted the collaborative efforts of various municipal institutions, including the IMM, the Municipal Family Integral Development System (DIF), the Specialist Group for Attention to Family and Gender Violence (GEAVIG), and the Search Group, in the fight against violence towards women.

The event was attended by students, young volunteers from the Municipal Institute for Youth's (IMJUVE) social service, and women who have benefited from various IMM programs.
