Another incident of alleged police misconduct has been reported in Playa del Carmen, with officers from the Municipal Citizen Security Secretariat of Solidaridad, led by Raúl Tassinari González, accused of torturing and assaulting a minor. The officers reportedly threatened to plant drugs on the minor and make him disappear if he reported the incident, highlighting a potential abuse of power.
The complaint was lodged by a local resident, Maricela Zamora Avalos, the aunt of the victim. She claims that the officers also behaved inappropriately with her 15-year-old niece, groping her and threatening sexual assault. The 17-year-old male victim, who remains anonymous, was allegedly tortured by members of the Municipal Police after they forcibly entered his home, claiming to have a search warrant which they did not produce.
The victims' aunt also reported that the minors' mother is currently hospitalized due to high blood pressure and elevated glucose levels, believed to be a result of the traumatic incident. The family is now faced with the additional burden of covering her private hospital expenses, as the general hospital refused to admit her.
The male victim recounted his experience, stating that he was assaulted by municipal officers at his home, then taken to a room where he was interrogated about matters he knew nothing about. He claims he was punched, handcuffed, and suffocated, and that the officers used an electric buzzer on his skin and threatened him with a gun. He was warned that if he reported the incident, the officers would plant drugs on him and make him disappear.
The victim also revealed that the assault took place in a room without cameras and no official paperwork was completed. He claimed that the more officers entered the room, the more he was beaten, and his sister was threatened with sexual assault if they reported the incident.
The complainant also stated that the State Attorney General's Office agents did not produce a search warrant for his residence, despite claiming to have one. He alleges that they, along with the municipal officers, stole 6,000 pesos and cell phones from his home. Patrols 82138, 82090, 84090, 82139, and 82125, reportedly involved in the incident, have also been accused by local residents of forcibly entering a home and stealing money and cell phones from an elderly woman.
In response to these distressing events, the victims have appealed to President Estefanía Mercado and Governor Mara Lezama for intervention.
