Officials from the Benito Juárez Municipality, along with representatives from different government levels, recently conducted an inspection tour of the Pet-friendly Temporary Shelter, a first-of-its-kind facility in Quintana Roo State. This was part of the preparation for the Hydrometeorological Phenomena season, which typically starts in June.
The shelter is situated at the Ek Balam primary school, in Superblock 247, and can house up to 67 people and 50 pets. The officials emphasized the importance of promoting a culture of preparedness ahead of the hurricane season to safeguard the lives of Benito Juárez residents.
The Hydrometeorological Phenomena season usually lasts from June to November. As part of the preventative measures, inspections are being conducted at all schools designated as temporary shelters. These shelters are equipped to provide accommodation, food, and medical assistance to those displaced during a hydrometeorological disaster.
Several municipal departments participated in the inspection, including Civil Protection, Animal Protection and Welfare, Ecology, the Heroic Fire Department, Public Services and Urban Development, as well as the Secretary of Education in Quintana Roo. Representatives from the Cancún A.C. Civil Engineers and Cancún A.C. Architects colleges were also present.
Benito Juárez Municipality operates a total of 67 shelters, spread across various areas of Cancún, with eight of them located in the Alfredo V. Bonfil delegation.
