A taxi driver in Cancún, identified as José Alberto "N", has been detained following a physical altercation with an Uber driver. The incident occurred on November 23, 2024, when the Uber driver was dropping off tourists in Cancún's Hotel Zone.

The State Attorney General's Office (FGE) reported that José Alberto "N" was arrested due to his suspected involvement in the crime of causing injury and possessing, manufacturing, importing, and storing prohibited weapons. The victim of these alleged crimes was an Uber driver. The initial investigation suggests that José Alberto "N" assaulted the Uber driver, who then retrieved a machete from his vehicle. The altercation took place outside a shopping plaza on Kukulcán Boulevard.

In response to the incident, the police compiled an investigative file and requested that the Quintana Roo State Mobility Institute revoke the licenses of the vehicles involved.

On November 28, the FGE obtained a search warrant for a property in the El Milagro neighborhood of Cancún. During the search, the taxi driver's vehicle was seized. On December 3, the vehicle of the Uber driver was also seized. Both vehicles, along with José Alberto "N", have been handed over to the Public Ministry.

The FGE also noted that an investigation into the actions of the Tourist Police, who are part of the Municipal Secretariat of Public Security and Traffic of Benito Juárez, has been initiated in relation to this case.
