The Economic Development and Regulatory Improvement Secretary of Puerto Morelos continues to back local craft makers and restaurateurs ahead of the 2024 end-of-year period. Occupancy rates have already reached 82 percent before the winter holiday season begins.
The Founders Park in Old Town Puerto Morelos once again hosted the "Creations of My People" Artisan and Gastronomic Pavilion. The event saw a high turnout of both tourists and residents, according to Economic Development and Regulatory Improvement Secretary, Elena Gutiérrez Briceño.
"We continue to empower artisans and producers by providing a platform for them to showcase their talents and sell their products directly. This not only boosts their economy but also adds another tourist attraction for our visitors," she noted.
The Economic Development head in the municipality stated that around 55 accredited producer and artisan stalls are present, all complying with the department's standards for uniformity. These standards include booth measurements, a white canopy, business signage, and proper identification.
Gutiérrez Briceño also mentioned the impressive range of products available, including paintings, wood carvings, embroidery, textiles, honey, regional sweet preserves, and various types of handcrafted jewelry.
She also acknowledged the four restaurants that have joined the event, reinforcing the gastronomic focus that has made Puerto Morelos one of the top destinations in the Caribbean. These establishments offer culinary creations and give visitors the chance to dine while enjoying stunning beach views at La Ventana al Mar.
The Municipal Secretary of Sustainable Tourism, Raúl Guadarrama, confirmed that hotel occupancy is on the rise, reaching 82 percent this weekend. This surge comes just before the start of the winter holiday period, which, according to the school calendar, begins on December 19 and ends on January 8, 2025.
