On the night of December 14th, Claudia Sheinbaum, the President of Mexico, arrived in Quintana Roo's capital via the Maya Train. This was part of her work tour across the Southeast, which included visits to the states of Yucatán and Chiapas.

Around 9:40 pm, she arrived at the Chetumal station of the Maya Train, where she was warmly welcomed by a choir of Mayan girls. She expressed her gratitude for the reception. Local officials and supporters, who had the chance to take commemorative photos with her, also awaited her at the station.

Sheinbaum shared on her social media, "Today we traveled on the Maya Train from the Palenque station, Chiapas to Chetumal, Quintana Roo. Tomorrow, we will celebrate the first anniversary of this remarkable project and inaugurate the final stretch to the public." This was the first tour of the Palenque-Chetumal route, which she undertook with her husband, Jesús María Tarriba, the governors of Chiapas, Tabasco, Yucatán, Campeche, and Quintana Roo, as well as members of her cabinet.

On December 15th, Sheinbaum will preside over the first anniversary of the Maya Train in Chetumal. She shared that part of the train was already operational, but tickets had not been available for purchase until now. To mark the first year, they will inaugurate the stretch from Escárcega to Chetumal, known as Section 7.

Sheinbaum announced, "Today (Saturday) we are going to run, and starting tomorrow tickets can be bought to travel throughout the peninsula on the Maya Train. We will also launch a freight Maya Train, which will start next year." This announcement was made during the commencement of construction of the “La Ceiba” Ecotourism Park in Palenque, Chiapas.
