Miguel Ángel Cuéllar Rangel, a former director of the Investigative Police of Quintana Roo's Attorney General's Office (FGE), has been arrested. He was wanted on charges of leading a criminal group involved in extortion and other criminal activities. His arrest took place in Pachuca, Hidalgo, following a coordinated operation involving various security forces from all levels of government.

The Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), Omar García Harfuch, announced the arrest on social media. He credited the successful operation to the collaboration between multiple security institutions, including the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena), Secretary of the Navy (Semar), National Guard, and the Attorney General's Office (FGE).

According to a joint statement, the arrest was the result of ongoing investigative work by the Security Cabinet, Sedena, Semar, National Guard, FGE, and SSPC. Cuéllar Rangel was wanted in Quintana Roo on two counts of premeditated murder.

The statement further elaborated that the FGE of Quintana Roo provided crucial information about Cuéllar Rangel, who was a high-priority target linked to a criminal cell. This group was allegedly responsible for extortion and homicides in the Benito Juárez (Cancún) municipality.

Investigations revealed that Cuéllar Rangel used various addresses in Quintana Roo, Nuevo León, and Mexico City. He was eventually located in Pachuca, Hidalgo, through the use of technological tools and surveillance. Upon his arrest, law enforcement agents confirmed his identity, executed the arrest warrants, informed him of the reasons for his arrest and his constitutional rights, and handed him over to the relevant Public Ministry agent.

The former official of Quintana Roo will now face justice for his alleged crimes.
