Professional women's golf is set to return to Mexico with a tournament where Nelly Korda, the top-ranked player in the Women's Professional Golf Association (LPGA), is expected to participate. Celebrating its 75th anniversary in 2025, the LPGA has unveiled its schedule for the upcoming season, marking the return of its tour to Mexico after an eight-year hiatus. The Riviera Maya Open is scheduled to take place in Cancún, Quintana Roo, from May 22 to 25, 2025, at the esteemed Mayakoba-El Camaleón course.
The LPGA has not hosted a tournament in Mexico since 2017. The forthcoming Riviera Maya Open boasts a prize pool of nearly 52 million pesos and will serve as a significant precursor to the US Women's Open, slated for May 29 to June 1 at Erin Hills, Wisconsin. The LPGA Tour's global calendar will kick off two weeks later than it did in 2024 and will feature competitions in 14 U.S. states and 11 other countries.
The upcoming season will also introduce the Black Desert Championship. The LPGA Tour's return to Mexico in 2025 underscores the country's significance on the international circuit, and the Major tournaments will offer even larger prizes than in previous years. This exciting line-up further cements the LPGA's status as one of the most prestigious tournaments in global women's golf.
