The Southeast Airport Group (Asur) has announced plans to construct a new terminal at Cozumel International Airport. The project, which is estimated to cost around 250 million pesos, is set to commence next year.

During a recent press conference, outgoing airport manager Jorge Campos Romero revealed that the new terminal will be connected to the existing one. The completion of the project is anticipated by 2027 or 2028.

"Our master development plan is designed to meet demand capacity projections. These calculations guide us in determining which areas need expansion based on a five-year forecast," Romero explained.

The new terminal will feature an expanded documentation area with increased counter space and a waiting room with double the current capacity. Romero clarified that there are no plans to extend the runways, but major rehabilitation work is scheduled every five years.

He also noted that the airport has seen growth in its platform, expanding from six to eight gates.

During the same conference, the incoming administrator of Cozumel airport, Pablo Esteban Arjona, was introduced. Arjona will be taking over from Romero, who will now oversee operations at Oaxaca International Airport.
