A resident of Tulum has raised awareness about a new strategy used by thieves in the area. These criminals pose as customers in public places to stealthily steal wallets and personal belongings. One victim of this type of theft shared her experience, which took place on December 17th while she was dining at a local restaurant.
The victim explained, "My wallet was stolen from my fanny pack that I had with me, hanging on my chair. I always keep it close, but they seized a moment of distraction to take it. Inside the red wallet was my Uruguayan passport, my permanent Mexican residence card, and my credit cards."
Following the incident, the Uruguayan resident urged the community to stay vigilant and work together to prevent such crimes. She advised taking extra precautions when visiting restaurants and other public spaces, and encouraged cooperation with local authorities to enhance security in Tulum.
