Mathieu Bélanger, a 39-year-old Canadian, was tragically killed in Playa del Carmen. He was reportedly associated with both the Sinaloa cartel and the CJNG, and was known to have connections with "Los Chapitos". Bélanger was discovered dead in his vehicle, having sustained five gunshot wounds to the head.

Bélanger was known in the drug trafficking world as a "freelancer", working for both cartels due to his established network of protection within the local police authorities. It is believed that hitmen from the Sinaloa cartel were responsible for his death, possibly acting on orders from his Canadian associates.

Reports from various sources suggest that Bélanger was a trusted figure within the CJNG. It is also speculated that he was part of a group backed by the Hells Angels. His partner is currently wanted in Quebec on charges of firearm possession.
