Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena recently presided over the 101st death anniversary ceremony of Felipe Carrillo Puerto. The event underscored the themes of social justice, equal opportunities, and the introduction of the Renaissance Youth scholarship.

The ceremony, held at the General Cemetery in the capital of Yucatán, was an opportunity for Governor Díaz Mena to urge the continuation of Carrillo Puerto's quest for social justice and equal opportunities in the region. He encouraged the community to adopt Carrillo Puerto's moral testament into their daily decision-making processes.

Governor Díaz Mena spoke of Carrillo Puerto as a source of inspiration, even almost a century after his sacrifice. He emphasized that Carrillo Puerto's example serves as a reminder that social justice and human dignity should form the core of all public policies.

The Governor, joined by Carlos Estrada Pinto, the rector of the Autonomous University of Yucatán (UADY), used the occasion to mark the symbolic end of the Year of Carrillo Puerto. He urged attendees to reflect on Carrillo Puerto's legacy and to reaffirm their commitment to the ideals he championed throughout his life.

The ceremony included a review of the socialist leader's legacy and a rendition of the anthem in his honor. Governor Díaz Mena asserted that Carrillo Puerto's legacy continues to be revitalized daily, with initiatives such as the newly launched Renaissance Youth scholarship. This scholarship, which includes a special Felipe Carrillo Puerto card, aims to further Carrillo Puerto's belief that investing in new generations leads to real transformation.

The event concluded with Governor Díaz Mena, along with civil and military authorities, laying a wreath and observing a moment of silence at the Mausoleum of the Illustrious Men of Yucatán. This is where Carrillo Puerto and the leaders who perished with him are interred.
