The municipal government of Solidaridad is gearing up for the traditional Kings' Day Cake cutting ceremony in Playa del Carmen. The town's president, Estefanía Mercado, has extended an invitation to locals, visitors from across the country, and tourists to join in the festivities. The event is scheduled to take place on the renowned Fifth Avenue, at the intersection with 12th Street, on Monday, January 6, at 6:00 p.m.
The cake, which is set to be a staggering 700 meters long, is expected to be one of the largest in both the country and Latin America. The cake will contain 1,500 dolls, and the plan is to distribute 2,500 slices to families in Soledad and to national and international visitors.
The preparation of the cake is a community effort. Vizcaya University, local bakeries, and other businesses have all contributed ingredients. The Secretary of Tourism, Estefania Hernandez, stated that the municipal president's directive is to uphold this tradition, which is deeply ingrained in Mexican society.
