The Cancún municipality is dedicated to the preservation and maintenance of public sports and recreational spaces. The municipal president, Ana Paty Peralta, has announced that in 2024, the Municipal Sports Institute (IMD) and the General Directorate of Public Services oversaw the upkeep of 1,982 parks and sports domes.

Throughout the year, the focus was on maintaining the cleanliness and upkeep of these sites. The IMD implemented 22 rounds of the Sports Spaces and Parks Rescue and Rehabilitation Program (Prred). This included locations such as Hugo Sánchez in Supermanzana 100, Los Abuelos in 234, José María Morelos (Toro Valenzuela) in 71, Olivos in 99, Tierra Maya in 105, and the sports dome of 48 among others.

The rehabilitation efforts included painting, restoring exercise equipment, replacing basketball boards and hoops, and performing plumbing and ironwork. These efforts aimed to create safe, appealing, and functional spaces for sports and recreational activities. The General Directorate of Public Services also maintained 1,960 parks, covering a total area of 7,820,506 square meters. The maintenance work primarily involved brush clearing, hand raking, lighting clearance, removal of vegetation and solid waste, game and exercise equipment rehabilitation, and general cleaning of park perimeters.

Ana Paty Peralta highlighted that these efforts not only contribute to a pleasing urban aesthetic but also promote public health, physical well-being, and safety for Cancún residents who frequent these public spaces.
