The Electoral Tribunal of Quintana Roo (Teqroo) has begun accepting applications for roles as expert witnesses, interpreters, and translators in Mexican sign language and Mayan language. This initiative aims to ensure inclusivity and respect for the linguistic rights of indigenous communities and individuals with hearing impairments in the state. Applications can be submitted from January 15 to February 14 of the current year.
Anahí Aragón Serrano, the head of this auxiliary body, stated that this initiative aims to bolster the defense of political-electoral rights of citizens. These expert witnesses and translators will be called upon by the electoral body to assist in resolving matters within its jurisdiction.
Serrano noted that there is no pre-existing list of expert witnesses, and this initiative is intended to create one. "The work of these expert witnesses will be pivotal in translation and interpretation during legal proceedings. They will be on standby to act whenever their services are needed," she said.
In return, a confidential directory of the selected expert witnesses will be established. This directory will be used exclusively for the intended purposes. Consequently, the Public Electoral Defense will be responsible for receiving and processing the applications.
