Governor Lezama Resumes “Gate to the Sea” Project in Carrillo Puerto

Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa has announced that work on the Gate to the Sea project in Vigía Chico will resume today. This project has been highly anticipated by the people of Carrillo Puerto and is expected to bring about significant changes.

During a recent public hearing, Governor Lezama engaged in a dialogue with members of the Carrillo Puerto Ejido. After resolving differences and reaching agreements, it was confirmed that a Gate to the Sea will be established for Felipe Carrillo Puerto, benefiting the residents of this municipality. Governor Lezama emphasized the government's commitment to dialogue and consensus, based on the New Agreement for the Well-being and Development of Quintana Roo, in order to promote shared prosperity.

Governor Lezama recalled the lengthy negotiations with former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador to finalize the project. She assured CONANP and SEMARNAT that the Sian Ka´an Biosphere Reserve would not be harmed by the construction of a handmade road. She acknowledged the challenges that arose, leading to the project's temporary halt, but expressed her delight at its resumption.

Governor Lezama thanked all those who participated in the dialogue and agreements to restart the Gate to the Sea project. She linked the project to the promotion of the 12 destinations of Quintana Roo at FITUR, including Maya Ka´an, a rapidly growing destination. She highlighted the role of the Maya indigenous people, and the residents of Carrillo Puerto and José María Morelos in this development.

The Governor also announced the opening of the Ichkabal archaeological zone in Bacalar, a feat achieved under her women-led government. This will enable a circuit of archaeological zones from north to south, supplementing sun and beach attractions with historical works such as the Maya Train.

During the program, Governor Lezama revealed the Three Kings Day festival, held simultaneously in 100 communities, will become a permanent event. She also responded to audience inquiries about municipal discount programs, health caravans, road maintenance, water leaks, welfare for women, vaccine distribution, and infrastructure projects, among other topics.
