Atenea Gómez, the Mayor of Isla Mujeres, recently took part in the unveiling of the Culinary Experience campaign at the International Tourism Fair (Fitur) 2025. This initiative is part of the broader effort by the Quintana Roo delegation to promote the Mexican Caribbean as a leading gastronomic destination. The campaign specifically highlights the unique culinary offerings of places like Isla Mujeres.
The Culinary Experience by Mexican Caribbean campaign, a collaboration between the State Tourism Secretariat and the Quintana Roo Tourism Promotion Council, will showcase the diverse gastronomic treasures of the 12 tourist destinations in the state. This includes the distinctive flavors and traditional dishes of Isla Mujeres.
Mayor Gómez reaffirmed her commitment to the tourism strategy spearheaded by Governor Mara Lezama. This strategy aims to diversify the state's economy. "Quintana Roo is more than just sun and beach. It also boasts a broad spectrum of gastronomic and cultural attractions that contribute to the development and growth of our communities," she stated.
The event also featured the presentation of the results of the Quintana Roo Gastronomy Promotion Strategy. Key initiatives highlighted included the Michelin Guide, the Mexican Caribbean Gastronomy Festival, the Gastronomic Recipe Book Flavors and Roots: a journey through the Mexican Caribbean (featuring traditional dishes from Isla Mujeres), the Directory of Experts from the Gastronomic Sector, and the Mexican Caribbean Flavors campaign.
