Preschoolers from the "20 de Noviembre" kindergarten recently took part in a program called "My First Steps in Prevention". This initiative was led by the Heroic Fire Department of Cancún, and is part of the city's ongoing efforts to promote citizen safety.

Aquileo Cervantes Álvarez, the head of the department, shared that these informative sessions have been reintroduced to the student community. This time, the focus was on the young students of the kindergarten in the Avante neighborhood.

Álvarez revealed that a total of 80 children eagerly took part in the engaging activities led by the firefighters. The kids were taught basic safety and prevention tips that they can apply at home or anywhere else to ensure their safety.

The children were advised not to go near the stove when food is being cooked to prevent burns. They were also warned against unplugging cords or inserting any objects into outlets. The importance of window protectors was highlighted, especially for those living in buildings, to prevent children from opening them. Additionally, the children were taught not to touch electrical appliances with wet hands.

The firefighters also explained their role, their preparation process, the characteristics of firefighting equipment, and the preventive measures that should be taken at home to avoid accidents.

Lastly, the children were informed about the emergency number 9-1-1, which is used to report incidents and request immediate assistance from the appropriate authorities.
