Cancún was recognized with four prestigious awards at the 32nd World Travel Awards, held during the International Tourism Fair (Fitur) 2025. The awards underscore Cancún's standing in the global travel and tourism industry. The ceremony was hosted at the Palace of the Dukes of Santoña in Madrid, with Justin Cooke, Executive Vice President of the World Travel Awards, presiding. Governor Mara Lezama and Benito Juárez's municipal president, Ana Paty Peralta, were also in attendance.
The World Travel Awards are known for honoring the best companies, destinations, and tourism services worldwide. The awards bestowed upon Cancún included: Mexico's Leading Beach Destination, Mexico and Central America's Leading City Destination 2024, Mexico and Central America's Top City Tourism Office 2023, and Mexico and Central America's Leading Meetings and Conference Destination 2024.
Governor Lezama expressed her pleasure at these achievements, emphasizing the significance of this recognition for those working in the tourism industry. She congratulated the industry workers, stating, "These World Travel Awards acknowledge the exceptional work of many people who strive daily to be the best." Municipal president Ana Paty Peralta echoed these sentiments, asserting that these awards serve as motivation to continue enhancing Cancún's innovation, sustainability, and hospitality, reinforcing its status as a global tourism benchmark.
