ADO Announces Major Modernization Plans for Tulum Bus Terminal
ADO, one of Mexico’s leading transportation companies, has revealed plans to modernize its Tulum bus terminal, aiming to better serve the growing demand in the region. According to Lourdes Jiménez, commercial manager of Mobility ADO in Riviera Maya, the project is expected to begin either later this year or by 2026, depending on final timelines.
Commitment to Growth in Quintana Roo
ADO, which recently celebrated its 85th anniversary, has a long history of supporting infrastructure growth across Mexico. “ADO is committed to Quintana Roo and Mexico. We have grown alongside the country for 85 years and will continue to invest in the state due to its significant popularity,” Jiménez said. The company has consistently prioritized modernization to meet the needs of both locals and tourists.
In line with this commitment, ADO recently inaugurated a new terminal in Bacalar, a reflection of the increasing tourist traffic in southern Quintana Roo. The upgraded Bacalar facility includes a modern ticket office, a spacious waiting room, and multiple bus platforms, ensuring greater comfort for passengers. The investment also covered the purchase of land and the construction of the terminal infrastructure.

Tulum’s Growing Demand
The planned upgrades for the Tulum terminal aim to address the high volume of traffic at the location, a major hub for travelers exploring Quintana Roo. While the exact details of the Tulum project are still being finalized, it underscores ADO’s efforts to keep pace with the area’s increasing popularity.
Digital Ticketing and Discounts
ADO continues to promote its digital services, allowing passengers to purchase tickets online via its website or mobile app. Travelers can simply present a QR code when boarding, eliminating the need for printed tickets. Additionally, ADO offers a 50% discount for advance purchases, making travel more affordable and convenient.
Shuttle Services and the Maya Train
With the launch of the Maya Train, a highly anticipated tourism initiative in the region, ADO has adapted its services to ensure connectivity. The company offers shuttle services to and from terminals, particularly in areas where Maya Train stations are located outside city centers. Despite initial concerns about competition, Jiménez noted that the train has not impacted ADO’s passenger numbers. “We believe that both modes of transportation can coexist,” she said, emphasizing the complementary role of buses in connecting travelers to destinations not directly served by the train.
Looking Ahead
ADO’s planned modernization of the Tulum terminal reflects the company’s dedication to enhancing travel infrastructure in one of Mexico’s most visited regions. With digital innovations, expanded services, and a continued focus on sustainability, ADO remains a key player in supporting Quintana Roo’s tourism and transportation needs.
