Salvador Lopecedeño Estefan, a notary in the municipality of Tulum, Quintana Roo, is under investigation for alleged misuse of his position. He is accused of benefiting various individuals through fraudulent activities.

On December 31st, the Secretary of Government of Quintana Roo conducted a notarial inspection with the intention of permanently revoking Estefan's public notary patent number 65. In response, Estefan filed an indirect protection lawsuit against the authorities' actions. However, his request to continue practicing was denied by the Fourth District Court. The Third Collegiate Circuit Court has since received an appeal against the order denying his suspension.

Estefan officially resigned from his post in 2022, but continued to practice without full authorization. After his resignation, he failed to surrender the official seal used for public certification of registration acts. His continued use of the seal has allegedly led to numerous fraudulent acts in Tulum.

The local authority has commenced an investigation into potential fraud, documented in case file FGE/QROO/SOL/5157/2023. The case is in its early stages, and a verdict on the requested suspension could be issued by the Collegiate Circuit Court this week.
