The DIF Solidaridad System, in collaboration with the Civil Registry, is organizing a mass wedding event on Valentine's Day as part of the Love and Friendship Day celebrations. The event is designed to provide legal certainty to couples who wish to formalize their relationships. More than 200 couples are expected to participate in the ceremony.
Eduardo Asensio, president of DIF Solidaridad, announced that they have received 70 applications so far, with a maximum capacity for 300 couples. He assured that they would accept more registrations if possible.
Asensio encourages all interested couples to register at the Civil Registry offices. "This initiative provides legal security to marriages, which is a great benefit for families," he said in an interview with Capital News.
To participate in the mass wedding, couples must present several documents including birth certificates, official identification, prenuptial medical certificates, proof of no outstanding alimony payments, and four witness identifications. Registration is open until February 13th and can be completed at any of the four Civil Registry offices in Solidaridad.
The exact location of the celebration will be announced soon. However, Asensio hinted that traditionally it is held on the beach or in significant community spaces. "We want this event to be memorable for couples deciding to take this important step," he said. He also emphasized that the mass wedding event is open to same-sex couples. "All couples wishing to get married can do so with full freedom and guarantee of rights," he stated.
DIF Solidaridad is also planning a series of community-focused activities. These include suicide prevention workshops, teenage pregnancy education, and dietary education in schools. The organization is also preparing for the upcoming Children's Day celebration on April 30th and Playa del Carmen's participation in the state carnival.
Lastly, it was announced that representatives from the municipality recently participated in the International Tourism Fair in Madrid. There, they promoted the "Explaya" brand to strengthen the tourist identity of Playa del Carmen on an international scale.
