Since the start of 2022, Cancún's municipal administrations have been cracking down on corruption within their security forces. As part of this initiative, 147 members have been expelled from the Secretary of Citizen Security and Traffic, 42 have been suspended, and an additional 3 have been arrested.

The municipal president, Ana Paty Peralta de la Peña, announced these measures, explaining that the sanctions and arrests were due to various reasons including corruption, abuses of authority, and excessive use of force.

Peralta de la Peña emphasized that her administration is committed to holding officers accountable for their actions. She stated that there are consequences for those who fail in their duties or act excessively. Her administration has no tolerance for officers who damage the reputation of the force through inaction, abuse of authority, neglect, or any form of corruption.

She made it clear that while they will always recognize and appreciate the work of good officers, there is no room in the Secretary of Citizen Security and Traffic for those who do not perform their duties properly.
