The Secretary of Government of Quintana Roo, Cristina Torres, has assured residents that the proposed change of the municipality's name from Solidaridad to Playa del Carmen will not impact citizens or require changes to official documents such as birth certificates or operating permits. This proposal, put forth by the administration of Estefanía Mercado, is currently being discussed in citizen forums.

Torres clarified that there will be no need for residents to change their documentation or incur any costs as a result of the name change. "Everything remains valid and in force, even if the name of the municipality changes," she stated. She also emphasized that the proposed change is part of a process of identity and social cohesion, aiming to strengthen the sense of belonging among the municipality's residents.

Luis Herrera Quiam, secretary general of the City Council, urged citizens not to be misled by misinformation during this process. He denied claims that residents would be forced to pay for new procedures or that there would be significant expenses involved. He encouraged citizens to participate in the consultation process and to form their own opinions based on verified information.

Agustín Aguilar Méndez, the municipal trustee, also dismissed rumors about substantial costs for document renewal. "There will be no costs for the citizens, and all their current procedures will continue to be valid," he confirmed.
