Laura Fernández Piña Disqualified and Fined 79M in Landmark Case

The State of Quintana Roo's Court of Administrative Justice has ruled that Laura Fernández Piña is guilty of a serious administrative offense, specifically abuse of functions. As a result, she has been disqualified from holding any public service jobs, positions, or commissions for a period of 20 years.

Fernández Piña began her political career in 1999 and was disqualified following a writ of habeas corpus issued on May 9, 2024, for a "serious offense". Prior to this, she served as a federal deputy for District 4 of Cancún in the 65th Legislature from August 2021 until August 2024.

In addition to her disqualification, the former municipal president of Puerto Morelos has been ordered to pay a compensation of 78,904,086 pesos. This is to cover the restitution of the financial damage she caused to the public treasury of the municipality during her tenure.
