Fyre Festival set to return in Mexico for 2025: All you need to know

The infamous Fyre Festival, known for its disastrous 2017 event, is set to make a comeback in Mexico in 2025. The Fyre Festival is notorious for being a fraudulent music event that affected numerous individuals, including celebrities, due to the scheming of ‘businessman’ Billy McFarland.

In 2017, McFarland, with the support of rapper Ja Rule, promoted a two-weekend festival on a Bahamian island. Attendees were promised an exclusive party experience with five-star accommodations, gourmet food, private yacht parties with models and influencers, and live performances by renowned bands.

Promotional material featured celebrities like Kendall Jenner, Bella Hadid, and Emily Ratajkowski. McFarland even claimed that the festival would take place on an island once owned by Pablo Escobar, which contributed to the event selling out. However, the reality of the festival was far from the promise. Attendees were left stranded with inadequate accommodations, lack of food and water, and most of the bands cancelled their performances.

Despite receiving a six-year sentence for fraud in 2018 and committing another fraud by selling fake tickets to private events, McFarland was released from jail in May 2022. He is now planning a second edition of the Fyre Festival to be held in Mexico.

On February 24th, McFarland revealed new details about Fyre Festival 2. The event is planned to take place from May 30th to June 2nd on Isla Mujeres, in the state of Quintana Roo. McFarland confirmed this during an interview with TODAY.

McFarland stated that they needed an extra month to prepare for the festival, which has not yet announced the performing artists. However, it is expected to feature a variety of music genres.

According to McFarland, the festival is not just about music. He suggested that they might invite a professional skater for a demo and an MMA champion to teach techniques. Tickets for the Fyre Festival in Mexico are already on sale through the festival’s website. Packages start from $1,400 for general admission, $25,000 for ‘Phoenix’ access, and one million dollars for a package for eight people.
