Isla Mujeres Mayor Boosts Youth Baseball Development

Isla Mujeres Municipal President, Atenea Gómez Ricalde, recently inaugurated the "Vinicio Castilla" Children's Baseball League with much fanfare. The league, organized by the Sports Department, aims to nurture local sporting talent among young boys and girls, encourage teamwork, and foster family connections through sports.

Mayor Gómez Ricalde underscored the significance of providing safe spaces and opportunities for the island's children and youth to hone their baseball skills. The inaugural match saw the Lobstermen of Isla Mujeres face off against the Cancun Taxi Drivers in three separate categories. The event was graced by the presence of esteemed former baseball players, coaches, and supportive families cheering from the stands.

During the event, the Mayor presented sports equipment to the Municipal Sports School, reaffirming her commitment to the promotion of baseball. Young players Angel Fernando Pech Cauich, Karim Eduardo Piña Ávalos, Yaimir Natanael Vallejos Ortiz, and Iker Andrés Rodríguez Argüelles, who were selected in the Baseball macro regional, were acknowledged for their achievements.

The Quintana Roo Prospects League was also launched by Municipal Trustee, José Inés Aguilar Rodríguez, and Councilor Isla del Mar Magaña López. In addition, young players José Alejandro Guerrero Briceño, Ahiram Marcony Gurubel Medina, and Nazario Uvaldo Vázquez Aké, who were selected for the National in Guadalajara from April 19 to 26, were recognized.

The Isla Mujeres Government reaffirms its commitment to promoting sports as a means of strengthening social bonds and enhancing the well-being of children and youth.
