The murder of Frigate Captain José Roberto Rodríguez Bautista, the former Secretary of Public Security and Citizen Protection for Tulum, appears to be a revenge act by a local criminal gang. This information was disclosed by the Attorney General of Quintana Roo, Raciel López Salazar, during a security meeting in the town.

Salazar confirmed that at least seven gunmen were involved in the attack, which took place on the evening of March 21. One of the attackers was killed on-site by security forces who were responding to the incident.

The leading theory suggests that the murder was retaliation by criminal groups who were negatively affected by recent operations. These operations were a joint effort between municipal, state, and federal authorities. The murder of Frigate Captain José Roberto Rodríguez Bautista, who served as the Secretary of Public Security and Citizen Protection of Tulum, seems to be linked to a vendetta by a criminal organization active in the municipality.
