The Mexican Caribbean Hotel Council (CHCM) and the Secretary of Tourism of the Mexican Government, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, recently convened to discuss strategies to bolster the Mexican Caribbean's standing in both national and international tourism. The meeting focused on improving tourist arrivals and preparing for the 2026 World Cup.

Key issues discussed included:

  • Infrastructure and connectivity: The meeting highlighted the need for modernizing Highway 307, a crucial transport link for the region. Proposals were made to ensure its maintenance, expansion, and lighting to enhance road safety and mobility for tourists and workers.
  • Visitor experience and immigration facilitation: The meeting emphasized the need to streamline airport processes, reduce immigration and customs waiting times, and digitize procedures to expedite tourist arrivals.

In anticipation of the 2026 World Cup, Quintana Roo is preparing to offer the best possible experience to the influx of tourists. The Mexican Government and Quintana Roo proposed several vital improvements:

  • Managing sargasso: The hotel sector provided updates on their progress in managing sargasso, in collaboration with institutions and international organizations. The meeting proposed establishing an inter-institutional coordination, led by the Secretary of the Environment, to strengthen the response to this issue.
  • Effective tourism promotion: The meeting proposed modernizing promotion strategies, prioritizing digital tools and artificial intelligence for more efficient market segmentation and increased impact on attracting international tourists.
  • Equitable conditions for the hotel sector: The meeting highlighted the need for effective auditing of vacation rental platforms to ensure fair regulation and competition.

The CHCM reiterated its commitment to working closely with the Secretary of Tourism and other government authorities to create sustainable strategies that further enhance the Mexican Caribbean as a major tourism hub. Josefina Rodríguez Zamora acknowledged the Mexican Caribbean's significant role in the national economy and reaffirmed the Secretary of Tourism's commitment to initiatives that strengthen infrastructure, promotion, and visitor experience in the state's tourist destinations. The CHCM underscored that such meetings foster collaboration between the public and private sectors, enabling a comprehensive strategy to maintain the Mexican Caribbean's leadership in the global tourism market.
