A pedestrian made a startling discovery in a vacant lot west of Playa Del Carmen this Saturday morning. While walking along Loros Avenue, the individual had to relieve themselves and ventured into a green area off the path. During this time, they noticed what appeared to be a human skull.
The area, located just meters from the second bridge on the extension of Colosio Avenue, is frequently used as it connects the Villas del Sol neighborhood with the extension of Luis Donaldo Colosio Avenue. The pedestrian immediately ended their business and fled the scene, quickly dialing emergency services to report the find.
Local and state public security forces, along with army personnel, were dispatched to the scene. The area was cordoned off while they worked to confirm if the skull was human and to search for any additional remains.
Upon confirmation that the skull was indeed human, no other remains were found at the site. The General Prosecutor's Office is now expected to conduct a thorough examination of the skull. The Forensic Medical Service will also be involved in determining how long the skull had been at the location, if there are potentially more remains in the area, and if possible, identifying the skull against a list of missing persons.
