In Yucatán, two out of every ten pregnancies involve girls under the age of 17. This statistic comes from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).

Psychologist Alejandra Cervera Dzib has found that 80% of these young women do not embrace their new role as mothers. Instead, they often delegate the responsibility to their own parents.

Cervera Dzib stresses the importance of early and comprehensive discussions about teen pregnancy. She advocates for comprehensive sexual education and easy access to contraception.

Addressing teen pregnancy is a complex issue. It requires cooperation from various parties, including the government, families, and local communities.
