Car rental businesses in the heart of the island have reported a 60% activity rate during the current off-peak season. This is a significant drop from the 80% operation rate experienced in the earlier months of the year.
Employees from these rental companies have noted a slight increase in demand for services with the arrival of cruise ships at the Punta Langosta pier. However, during the low season, these ships only dock three days a week.
From last month, activity has begun to decrease. The current level of business is primarily maintained by visitors arriving from the mainland via the maritime route from Playa del Carmen to Cozumel.
Another significant market for these rental services are hotel guests. However, hotel occupancy rates have also dipped by up to 50%, leading to a sharp decline in vehicle rentals.
