For 56 days, a conflict has been brewing between Campeche police officers and Governor Layda Sansores San Román. The officers have made another plea to President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, asking him to intervene in their dispute. They are seeking the removal of the Secretary of Protection and Citizen Security (SPSC), Marcela Muñoz Martínez.
The officers recorded a video message at the SPSC facilities, which they have occupied since March 16. They are also calling on the President to mediate the reinstatement of seven officers who were permanently discharged by the department's Honor and Justice Commission.
In their message, the officers claim, "We are police, men and women, who have nearly lost our lives following orders. For speaking out, we are being repressed." They accuse Governor Sansores San Román of belittling, defaming, and slandering them.
The officers also allege that they were deceived by officials from the Ministry of the Interior and the Public Function Ministry. They claim these officials used them to prevent protest demonstrations during the recent visit of candidate Claudia Sheinbaum.
The officers express their frustration with the governor, stating, "We have been treated disgracefully. Several of our colleagues were suspended merely for protesting and supporting the movement. They are attempting to make us invisible and ignore us."
They plan to deliver their message during President López Obrador's working tour to monitor the progress of the Mayan Train.
The officers are making two demands: the reinstatement of the seven officers who were permanently dismissed and the removal of the Secretary of Protection and Citizen Security, Marcela Muñoz Martínez, and her directors. They accuse these officials of financially penalizing them and committing numerous irregularities.
