A geomagnetic solar storm that began this Friday is causing extreme temperatures throughout the weekend. This has resulted in the spectacular display of the Northern Lights, visible in various parts of the world, including Cancún.
Cancún-based astrophotographer, Robert Fedez, posted images on his social media accounts. These pictures were taken at midnight from the Punta Cancún lighthouse, located in the hotel zone.
In a Facebook post, he shared his excitement:
"Northern Lights in Cancún? Today, the Northern Lights are trending because of the intense solar activity that's causing them. I saw some photos of the phenomenon taken in the Yucatán Peninsula and decided to try my luck from the iconic Punta Cancún Lighthouse. It was worth venturing out at midnight. Tomorrow, I plan to try again from a location further away from light pollution."
