Beware! Scammers demanding $40K for housing list spots

The Secretariat of Sustainable Urban Territorial Development (Sedetus) has issued a warning about fraudsters demanding up to 40 thousand pesos to add individuals to the official housing list in Quintana Roo. Recently, these scammers have been found promising supposed benefits and guaranteeing top spots on the list of beneficiaries in return for hefty payments.

Sedetus has received numerous reports from citizens who have paid between 15 thousand and 40 thousand pesos to be included in this registry. The scammers told these individuals that the money would act as a deposit for affordable houses offered by Sedetus in various cities across the state. However, after a brief period, these middlemen cease communication, claiming that the process is now in the hands of Sedetus staff.

In response to this situation, Sedetus has announced it will launch an investigation into these fraudulent "coyotes". The agency is also urging citizens to report any encounters with these scammers to prevent further victims of these deceptive practices.
