Another tragic incident involving a big cat occurred this Friday in southern Quintana Roo. A puma was found dead on the roadside of the Cafetal-Mahahual highway. The death was attributed to reckless driving and the absence of wildlife crossings.

The puma's injuries suggest it was hit by a vehicle. It is believed the animal had been dead for at least a couple of days before it was discovered. After finding the body, it was handed over to the Profepa for a forensic examination.

This incident marks the fifth time a big cat has been killed in a traffic accident in the region. The common factor in these accidents is motorists driving at excessive speeds.
