Trailer Disaster on Mayan Train Route Shocks Mérida!

A truck lying on its side next to a road with its cargo of concrete slabs scattered around.

A trailer carrying construction materials for the Mayan Train project recently overturned on the Mérida-Campeche highway. The incident happened at kilometer 131, when the driver, fatigued and overwhelmed by the heat, fell asleep at the wheel.

Consequently, the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer off the road and overturn, spilling its heavy load of concrete sleepers. The driver was trapped inside the cabin when the vehicle tipped over.

Bystanders quickly rushed to the scene to help the driver and alert emergency services. Responders from the SSP and an ambulance arrived swiftly, providing first aid before transporting the driver to a nearby hospital.

The highway had to be temporarily closed due to the scattered sleepers and overturned trailer blocking the road. However, it was later reopened to vehicle traffic.
