CANCUN – Benito Juárez was confirmed to be the first municipality in Mexico to earn a total of 39 Blue Flag badges in the 2021-2022 season. Cancun remains in the first position in Mexico with this number of certifications and in sustainable tourism venues, highlighted the Municipal President Mara Lezama, upon receiving the respective Blue Flags from the European Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE).
At an event held in Playa Las Perlas, Mara Lezama stressed that she will continue working to create and build a better Cancun for the next 50 years. Not only does the Caribbean seaside city have the privilege of being one of the most beautiful destinations in the world, but it also offers world class accommodations and services.
She emphasized that the seven decorated public beaches Del Niño, Las Perlas, Chac Mool, Ballenas, Marlín, Delfines and Coral are the best welcome for the general public. Also recognized were the efforts of the three hotel chains that were also accredited and recognized as leaders in the industry.
Lezema announced the Blue Flag award for 29 tourist service venues, giving the municipality a total of 39 awards, four more than it received in the previous year.
“We want a Cancun that is ready, active, creative, collaborative and with open doors, which offers warmth, culture, security and trust for its visitors. The future is to move towards the transformation that generates shared prosperity, so that well-being is for each and every Benitojuarenses ”, Lezama highlighted.
Blue Flag is an international program for the certification of beaches and marinas that rewards those coastal destinations that have the following characteristics: Maintain excellence in environmental management and management, in the quality of safety and hygiene facilities, application of environmental education and informational activities and optimal levels of water quality.
