Ángel Cardoz Fernández, the PAN candidate for mayor in Cenotillo, has filed a complaint following death threats made against him. The threats were allegedly made by two individuals associated with the Morena party, one of whom was armed.
The complaint was lodged at the Public Ministry in Izamal. Fernández detailed that the incident occurred two days prior, when the two Morena party affiliates entered a central Cenotillo establishment. They demanded that Fernández be brought to them, with the intention of assaulting him. The gravity of the situation was heightened by the fact that one of the individuals was carrying a firearm.
Fernández identified the primary suspect as a frequent traveller to Cancún from Cenotillo. In response to the complaint, the Public Ministry has issued a protection order for Fernández and his family.
The PAN Yucatán has issued a call to all political forces and actors to refrain from marring the current electoral process with acts of violence and intimidation. They stated, “We condemn any form of violence and trust in the judicial authorities to initiate the appropriate investigations. Those responsible for the death threats against our candidate in Cenotillo must be held accountable. The PAN State Committee fully backs and supports Fernández.”
