The third annual Yucatan i6 Technology Congress opened its doors on Thursday. This year, the event boasts over 90 exhibitors and anticipates more than 20,000 attendees.

Maria Dolores Fritz Sierra, representative of the Governor's office, expressed in her opening remarks that such events spark interest in science and technology-based academic programs among children and young adults. She emphasized that the congress has planned activities involving all stakeholders in the state's technological ecosystem, including the private sector, state government, academia, and civil society.

The aim of exposing students to science is to inspire them to choose careers in science, technology, engineering, cybersecurity, or similar fields. The ultimate goal is to transform Yucatan into a technological hub in the southeast.

Merida's mayor, Alejandro Ruz Castro, highlighted that the congress encourages women's participation in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics. He stated, "In Yucatan, we are committed to reducing the gender gap and inspiring more girls and women to develop their skills in science and technology. This congress is a testament to the efforts needed to achieve this goal."

He concluded by encouraging students to fully engage in the event, exchange ideas with their peers, and learn from the experts present. He added, "Few cities can offer such events that resonate with you. Make the most of them, as the knowledge you gain here will be crucial for your future roles in managing this city."
