A van driver tragically lost his life early this morning on the federal highway 307, specifically on the stretch between Playa del Carmen and Tulum. The accident happened around 6 am, close to the Palladium hotel, on the lane leading to Playa del Carmen.
Eyewitnesses report that the blue Ford van veered onto the divider, subsequently knocking over a utility pole. The pole fell onto the vehicle, crushing the driver. Preliminary reports suggest that the driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel, leading to the loss of control over the van.
The impact was severe, resulting in the driver's immediate death. Emergency crews arrived promptly at the scene and extracted the driver from the wreckage. State Police and Forensic Services were also present at the site of the accident.
Forensic Services took responsibility for transferring the body to the Forensic Medical Service.
