Abandoned Cancún General Hospital Blaze Alarms Locals

Firefighters with a hose near burnt debris with a fire truck in the background amid smoke after extinguishing a fire.

A fire broke out at the abandoned General Hospital in Cancún, according to a 911 call. The local fire department, known as the Heroic Fire Corps of Benito Juárez, arrived on the scene to discover the fire had started from accumulated trash and overgrowth, both inside and outside the building. The flames outside the building covered an area of approximately 8×5 meters, fueled by burning trash and plastics. Inside, a room of about 4×4 meters was ablaze.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that two homeless individuals who had been sheltering in the old hospital fled the scene, fearing they would be trapped by the fire. Firefighters later managed to extinguish the fire using water jets and subsequently left the area.

Civil Protection personnel also arrived on the scene to assess the damage and ensure that neighboring homes were not at risk.
